CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – A 2-year-old boy was killed after he was attacked by dogs in the backyard of a home Saturday afternoon.

According to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office they were called to a home in the 8300 block of North Bloom Point in Crystal River around 4:20 p.m. When they arrived, they found a toddler in the backyard of a home with marks on his body consistent with a dog attack. There were four Rottweilers and another small dog in the backyard.

Deputies said the parents of the boy 29-year-old Christopher Camejo and 31-year-old Claudia Scarbrough were inside the home with friends and two other children. The boy’s father was found to be in violation of an injunction for protection and was taken into custody at that time. The injunction had been served in another county on behalf of Claudia Scarbrough.

Animal Control Officers removed the four Rottweilers and an additional dog from the home. DCF was notified of the incident and both children were sheltered.

“This is a horrific situation,” said Lt. Kevin Purinton. “It’s unimaginable what that poor baby went through and we’re going to do everything we can to determine exactly what happened and if any charges should be brought forth.”

The investigation is continuing at this time.
