Gifts of thanks show up at Fort Myers Police Department

FORT MYERS, Fla.- In light of the violence against police officers across the country, signs of support are popping up across Southwest Florida. Anonymous people are thanking officers for all they do. WINK News has heard about signs of gratitude at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Fort Myers Police Department.

“We are very thankful, we are getting community support in these trying times,” said Lt. Victor Medico.

Fort Myers Police Lieutenant Victor Medico stands in front of our camera wearing a mourning band over his badge after three officers were killed in the past three days.

“We’re mourning with them too, our hearts go out to these families who lost their lives,” said Lt. Medico.

This single bouquet of flowers was left leaning against the Fallen Officers Memorial outside of police headquarters.

“We see it everyday when we come in and out of the police department.”

The Fort Myers Police Department knows firsthand what it’s like to lose a brother in blue.

“We have seen and felt that tragedy close to home with Officer Andrew Widman.”

These signs of support were placed outside the police department when no one was looking.

“It was a pleasant surprise, a few employees started noticing them yesterday afternoon, and it started to create a buzz around the police department,” Lt. Medico told WINK News.

The random act of kindness, reminding officers they are part of a larger team, in a line that says ‘together we win.'”

“I speak on behalf of the Fort Myers Police Department, it doesn’t go unnoticed.”

These secret Santa’s have hit the police department multiple times this week. Much to the their surprise, someone gave the officers hundreds of sweet treats.

“We all know that cops like donuts and to have 36 dozen or 432 of them brought to us, it really makes us feel good!”

It also sounds like the same secret Santa who brought these officers the sweet treats this morning, also made sure Lee County Deputies weren’t left out– 76 dozen donuts, 15 gallons of orange juice and five key lime pies were dropped off.
