FORT MYERS, Fla.- Two people are under arrest, accused of robbing a taxi driver.

Byron Mowatt, 21, is facing charges for robbery with a firearm.

Police say the robbery occurred in late January, in the parking lot of the Westwood Apartments located on Metro Parkway.

The victim, employed by Blue Bird Taxi Company, was in the parking lot on a lunch break with a friend when the two suspects approached him while he was sitting in his vehicle.

According to authorities, Mowatt pulled out a handgun, pressed it to the side of the cab driver’s head and demanded money. The second suspect stood by while the gunman rummaged through the cab driver’s pockets taking $23 in fare that was accumulated during his shift.

Both men then fled into the apartment complex. Police conducted an extensive search of the area that evening but the two suspects were never located.

Police were able to locate Mowatt  and take him into custody Wednesday at the Westwood Apartment complex.

WINK News is not identifying the second suspect due to his age.
