Last week the FGCU women’s basketball team broke into the top-25 in the Associated Press poll for the first time in program history. On Monday the Eagles moved up one spot to number 22. FGCU earned nearly double the points from last week and is the third highest ranked mid-major program behind undefeated Princeton (#14) and Chattanooga (#18). The Eagles are riding a 20 game winning streak and have an overall record of 25-2. More importantly FGCU has an official RPI ranking of 16. The computer based poll that factors in strength of schedule is used by the NCAA Tournament Selection committee to help determine seeding. The Eagles who have already clinched a fifth-straight Atlantic Sun Regular Season Championship play at North Florida on Wednesday night before finishing the regular season with a home game against Jacksonville on Saturday night. They were ranked number 24 by the USA Today Coaches Poll that came out last week. That poll will be published again on Tuesday.
