First ‘Miles for Melanoma’ walk takes place Saturday at Tanger Outlets

FORT MYERS, Fla.-  The first-ever Miles for Melanoma 5K walk and run is taking place this Saturday.

The event will raise money for the Melanoma Research Foundation.

The Florida Skin Center tells WINK News, currently, there isn’t much melanoma research going on, so it hopes to raise money for research, medication and awareness.

So far, they’ve raised $7,000 but are looking for more.

“Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. One in 50 people will develop melanoma.
Hoping to raise awareness in the area, to the importance of skin checks and skin cancer in general,” said Dr. Aurora Badia, of the Florida Skin Center.

The Miles for Melanoma 5K happens this Saturday at Tanger Outlets. Registration begins at 7 a.m., the 5K starts at 8 a.m.

The event will be hosted by WINK News Investigative Reporter Sam Smink.
