Abused dog flying into SWFL to find new home

FORT MYERS,  Fla.- A neglected and abused dog is coming to Fort Myers to meet her foster family.

“New Girl,” an 8-year-old boxer, was found living in a crate behind a hotel in central Florida. She was starving and covered in fleas.

A concerned citizen contacted Florida Boxer Rescue volunteers who took her away.

“I can’t wait to just open my arms to her, I just can’t wait,” said Chuck Price.

Price lives in Cape Coral, he’s a foster parent through Florida Boxer Rescue. He’ll be giving New Girl a new home.

“After she gets settled in, I want to go get her a nice big ribeye. Just a lot of TLC from here going forward,” said Price.

New Girl will be flying first class to Southwest Florida, through the non-profit organization Soaring Paws.

“It’s amazing how people from all over the country were willing to adopt animals, if they could simply get to them, or have the animals get to them,” said Albert Adams, creator of Soaring Paws.

With 220 pilots working for free, Adams says rescue organizations from all over the country can call him with requests.

He’ll take animals rescued from bad situations, or no-kill shelters, and fly them to where foster or adoption homes are available.

New Girl will be his star passenger.

“I just know, at the end of the day, I’m doing a good thing,” said Adams.

New Girl will be flying into page field Saturday morning, around 10:30.

Florida Boxer Rescue organized the trip. The non-profit organization has saved more than 4,000 boxers in the state. They partner with vets throughout the area, to get the dogs the care they need.
