Investigation reveals details leading up to shooting involving Naples officers

Published: Updated:

NAPLES, Fla.- New details just released show the events leading up to a deadly domestic shooting between two Naples police officers.

The State Attorney’s Office says Luis Monroig shot his girlfriend, Sgt. Amy Young, last July in their Estero home, then killed himself.

The investigation report says Young was drinking at a couple of bars on 5th Avenue South in Naples and then drove home to Estero the night of the shooting, violating department policy.

The investigation found Young also violated department policy by not disclosing her relationship with her boyfriend until they had been dating for a few weeks.

As a result of these violations, she was suspended for five days without pay. But Young may never actually serve the suspension. She hasn’t worked since the shooting.

Right now, Young is waiting for the pension board to approve a settlement with the city.

She would receive $140,000 plus disability payments for each year in return for leaving the department and not suing.
