Dog suffocates at Camp Bow Wow after being trapped under pool

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- A one-year-old bulldog suffocated after a plastic dog pool fell on him and trapped him underneath.

The tragic accident happened at the Camp Bow Wow in East Naples. The camp tells WINK News, nothing like this had ever happened before at their facility.

“We feel terrible,” said camp owner Isel Tiziano.

Wrigley, the bulldog also known as “Monster,” was young and came to Camp Bow Wow to socialize. His mom brought him in but it would be the last time she would get to say goodbye.

“Wrigley loved the pool. He was a dog that just couldn’t get enough of the pool,” explained Tiziano. “Unfortunately, he came and got underneath the pool, batted at it and somehow it fell on him.”

It happened in the heat of the day around noon. No one at Camp Bow Wow noticed the accident and Wrigley suffocated under the plastic pool.

“There was a counselor going back and forth but no one noticed. We had a shift change, the new counselor came and picked up the pool and found Wrigley underneath unresponsive,” said Tiziano. “This has really rocked us, this is a sad day.”

“This was her child, literally her child,” said Sarah Bliss, a friend of Wrigley’s mother. “The whole family is devastated. I have never heard of anything so negligent.”

Wrigley’s mom was too distraught to talk but Bliss says with 24 hour video cameras and staff, someone at Camp Bow Wow should have noticed what happened.

“He would have barked–for a pool to have fallen and nobody to– it just doesn’t sit,” said Bliss. “It doesn’t sit right at all. It shouldn’t of happened.”

Wrigley went to the camp to socialize three times a week. His mom watched him through a phone app.

“She will get on her phone and look at him. He will be running –at one point in time a bunch of employees were just huddled in a corner not interacting.”

“To imagine what he went through during that period of time is heart wrenching,” said Bliss.

Camp Bow Wow took Wrigley to an animal hospital but he was already gone.

The dog camp is having a staff meeting to figure out what went wrong. The owner is also looking for ways to secure the pools so they cannot fall down.
