New fence changes image at Bonita Springs Middle School

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.- Out with the old and in with the new. Bonita Springs Middle School has a new look and a safer campus for its students.

The school is getting a new image with a fence that gives it a fresh, open and inviting look.

“It looks a lot better, it’s friendly, it’s beautiful. It’s really going to do wonders for the school,” said Mayor Ben Nelson.

“This is so much more inviting, it is beautiful,” said Holly Lopez.

The mayor teamed up the Bonita Springs community to raise the $30,000 to take this old chain-linked fence down. His goal is to have the new fence reflect the school’s good reputation and to make the school safer for students on campus.

“I’m much more secure, I feel so much better, because people can’t sneak in or go around back,” said Lopez.

“That was the illusion, the big fence outside made it safer for the kids, it didn’t,” said Mayor Nelson.

The old fence had to be left open during school hours and it was closed after the students left.

“It’s actually safer now, we can control the access during school hours. The people have to come in the front, they can’t go around the sides.”

The mayor says there will be some new landscaping done and the school board is going to do things to help with the traffic flow at the school.
