Victim’s son speaks out after attempted kidnapping

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- A teenage boy is speaking out after his mother was almost kidnapped in Golden Gate Community Park.

Only WINK News was on scene Tuesday night, as 41-year-old Maria Lopez told deputies what happened.

She said a man was trying to get her attention while she was exercising in the park late Tuesday night.

Lopez says he was calling her attractive and said he wanted to get to know her. The victim told the man she had a boyfriend and continued to ignore him, but she says when the lights went out and she went to her car, he grabbed her. She got away and called 911.

Lopez’s son, Ahmad Jones, tells WINK News, “I was outside before my mom left and a couple of minutes before I came inside my mom came inside telling me that some dude tried to snatch her in the car, so I got up and went looking for him but I didn’t find him.”

He says he doesn’t want this to happen to anyone else.

“If you girls are walking at night, try to walk with someone else because it can happen to you. If they don’t catch him he’ll probably try to go after another female.”
