Multi-vehicle hit and run crash shuts down Palm Beach Blvd.

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating a multi-vehicle hit and run accident that happened at the intersection of Palm Beach Boulevard near the I-75 off ramp on Saturday evening.

According to FHP, a red Toyota pickup truck was driving eastbound on Palm Beach Blvd. at a high rate of speed. The 18-year-0ld driver, Kevin Gonzale, rear-ended a grey Lexus. Due to the high rate of speed, the truck rolled over and Gonzale was ejected. He was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital and is in critical condition.

The Lexus hit a palm tree head on, and the driver fled the scene on foot.

Two other trucks were hit during the time of the crash and came to a rest in the median. The occupants of those vehicles were not injured.

Two other vehicles were involved in the crash but only receive minor damage. The occupants in those cars appeared to be okay.

Troopers are still looking for the driver of the Lexus.

It is unknown if alcohol played a role in this crash.
