Estero Fountain Lakes residents experience heavy flooding

ESTERO, Fla. – Flooding in the Fountain Lakes Community made it hard for some people to get home Monday.

The homeowners association is hoping for less rain so the water will recede.

The flooding wasn’t a problem for some drivers, while others watched and then took their chances.

Debra Lyons wasn’t one of them, “when is this rain gonna stop? I mean I’ve been here five years now I’ve never seen it like this.”

Lyons is a registered nurse for Lee Memorial Health System. She was trying to get to a patient’s house when she was faced with the flooding.

So Lyons decided to turn around and try another way.

“I’m gonna go to the back gate and try to get in some way some how. I’ll do it, I just can’t drive through this.”

Just south in Collier County, a tree cam crashing down Monday morning.

“I guess the ground became so saturated with the rains we got the past few days, that it just took it down,” said Bruce Ward.

It happened behind his condo in Bent Pine Villas. Along with the roots, Ward’s concrete patio and water pipes came up with it.

“Just snapped them in half and there was just irrigiation water flowing everywhere until we could get it shut off.”

Ward said they wouldn’t be able to determine the amount of damage caused by the tree until it was removed.
