Charlotte Co. offers stickers designed to save pet lives

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla.- Something as simple as a sticker could save your pet’s life.

Charlotte County officials on Tuesday unveiled a sticker that will notify firefighters and other first responders of a pet inside a home that may need to be rescued.

“That’s the goal, to make it simple so that people do it. When you make something very complicated it’s like, ‘gee, I don’t know if I can handle that,” said Jeanne LaFrantz with the Peace River K-9 Search and Rescue.

Printed with bright colors, and made from durable material, the sticker is designed to stand out during a chaotic moment, such as a fire.

“It can be seen very easily day or night, it’s a very resistant surface, so it’s not going to fade in weather,” said LaFrantz.

While it may not seem like much, officials said the sticker could be a life saver.

“There’s cases in and around Florida where animals have died because they didn’t know they were there,” said Animal Control Division Manager Brian Jones.

“This is a great way to alert the first responders that there is a pet there that is going to need attention,” said LaFrantz.

Once the pet is rescued, animal control officials will take care of the animal until other arrangements are made.

Stickers can be obtained at the Charlotte County Public Safety Complex for a $3 donation or can be ordered online.
