Plea deal set in 2013 deadly Christmas hit-and-run

LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Charles Lawson, the former State Attorney’s Office investigator charged in a deadly hit-and-run, says he will take a plea.

Prosecutors say Lawson hit and killed Michael Sasen on McGregor Boulevard on Christmas 2013, then took off.

Lawson did return to the scene a few minutes later. He is charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death, and DUI.

Instead of making a set deal with the state, Lawson asked the judge to decide his punishment.

We spoke exclusively to Sasen’s stepmom, who says the family wants jail time for Lawson.

“They need closure. It’s been going on for so long now and we know Michael wouldn’t want this. He’d want peace for everyone so, we want peace for Michael,” said Barbara Sasen.

Lawson could face up to 30 years in prison, with a minimum of four years. The plea is set for October 9. Trust WINK News to be there as it happens.
