Police: Man, 80, stabs wife, calls police to confess

MIAMI (AP) – Authorities say an 80-year-old South Florida man stabbed his wife to death with a knife inside their home and then went to a nearby supermarket to call police and confess.

According to a Miami-Dade Police arrest report, Abner P. Lawton stabbed his wife, Betty Lawton, multiple times inside their Kendall home on Sunday.

Police have told local media that Abner Lawton, still wearing bloody clothes, then drove to a supermarket to use a telephone to call 911 and say he had killed his wife.

Authorities responded to Lawton’s home and found his wife dead with multiple stab wounds. He is facing a second-degree murder charge.

An attorney for Abner Lawton said during a Monday court appearance that the man is suffering from an advanced case of Alzheimer’s disease.
