FMPD officer resigns after bar brawl

FORT MYERS, Fla.–A Fort Myers police officer, once accused of excessive force, has resigned after being involved in a fight over the weekend.

Trevor Lehman was in a bar brawl with another man Saturday night at the Dixie Roadhouse in Cape Coral, Fort Myers police said.

Lehman was fired in 2013 for using excessive force during a traffic stop, but an arbitrator reversed the decision 10 months later.

“Due to my former unjust termination and subsequent reinstatement, my life at this agency and outside this agency has not been the same,” Lehman said in his resignation letter. “Financially, professionally, and emotionally my well-being has suffered.”

The fight started after Lehman walked to the man, shoved him to the ground and walked away, according to a police report. Lehman told investigators he pushed the man after he put his hands on Lehman’s girlfriend.
