Military uniforms stolen from local Army veteran

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- It’s been an emotional week for a local Army veteran.

Someone stole two of her military uniforms from her car. She is asking WINK News to help her get her uniforms back because they mean so much to her.

“I really didn’t think someone would take anything like that. I thought they would have enough respect for the military and the armed services,” said Sgt. Amanda Goodlin Negrete. “It’s been an emotional couple of days because I lost both of my uniforms that were extremely sentimental to me.”

Two of Goodlin Negrete’s military uniforms were stolen, her Class A and her Army Combat Uniform. She was going to get them pressed before she put them away.

“I really thought I had locked the car. When I ran out the next day, the doors were locked. So whoever broke in, locked the doors behind them.”

She found her car broken into on Tuesday morning. Several other cars were hit near her home on Southeast 9th Place.

A picture captures the veteran at her husband’s funeral wearing her dress blues. He was also in the Army.

“It makes me think about how hard I worked for that uniform. It wasn’t easy to earn. It makes me thinks that my husband died for that uniform,” said Goodlin Negrete.

Now, the veteran is hoping someone out there watching will do the right thing and return her uniforms to the Southwest Florida Military Museum, no questions asked.

“I just hope they have the integrity to come forward and bring them to the Military Museum and hopefully if they see this story they will understand it’s not just a uniform for all of us soldiers.”

She is also offering a reward to someone with answers.
