FORT MYERS, Fla. Enhanced sentences will be sought against anyone convicted of looting in the 20th Judicial Circuit in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.

The state attorney’s office for that district also said it’s creating a Hurricane Response Team to handle cases of price gouging and contracting without a license.

“Our experienced prosecutors will review these cases as they come in and make sure those who prey on people at their most vulnerable times are held accountable,” Chief Assistant State Attorney Amira Fox said as part of a statement.

The 20th Judicial Circuit covers Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties.
