FORT MYERS, Fla. A precautionary boil water notice was issued Monday for a handful of Fort Myers neighborhoods.

A 16-inch water main break forced the measure for residents and businesses in the Pelican Preserve, Plantation Somerset, Bridgetown at The Plantation, and Plantation subdivisions, city spokeswoman Kirsten O’Donnell said.

The advisory will remain in place until the break has been repaired and a bacteriological survey shows the water is safe to drink, according to O’Donnell.

All water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes should be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. Bottled water can be used as an alternative.
