The pedestrian was trying to cross the northbound lanes and was struck by a Lincoln MKX driven by 63-year-old Antonio Salazar of Lehigh Acres, according to the FHP. It’s unclear why the pedestrian was walking on the interstate.

The identity of the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead on scene, is being withheld by the FHP pending next-of-kin notification.

It’s the fourth time this week a pedestrian has been hit and killed on Lee County roads. A 29-year-old Fort Myers woman was killed in a Lehigh Acres hit-and-run over the weekend. The other two collisions took place in North Fort Myers, Tuesday on U.S. 41 and Wednesday on Business 41.

No charges have been filed.
