A Naples motorcyclist was killed after crashing with a Collier County Sheriff’s Office van near the Naples Airport on Wednesday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 61-year-old motorcyclist was traveling west in the left turn lane of Horseshoe Drive around 6:30 p.m. A CCSO van driven by a 57-year-old Naples woman was traveling east on Horseshoe Drive when the motorcyclist attempted to turn left onto River Reach Way, violating the woman’s right of way. The front of the van collided with the side of the motorcycle.

The man was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced dead. The crash remains under investigation.

The Florida Highway Patrol no longer releases the identities of people involved in vehicle crashes, citing Marsy’s Law.
