Cat cafe opens in North Naples

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- Free wi-fi, coffee, and food. It sounds like any ordinary cafe, but instead of a step, Ericka Basile has taken it four paws further.

“It’s like Cheers, instead of beer we have pets and you belong here when you come in.”

It’s called Planet Tails and the doors just opened last week on Vanderbilt Beach Road and Airport Pulling Road in North Naples. The spot offers a variety of services.

“Cat boarding, doggy day care, aquariums, cat cafe and, of course, huge retail section.”

What caught Margo Bruno’s eye was the cat cafe.

“I saw the sign and thought, ‘oh that looks interesting, let me go see.'”

Inside she found cats just waiting to be played with.

“I certainly will be coming here a lot and buying things for my kitty cat and my dog and come and play.”

“If you’re a cat lover and I’m a cat lover, we can hang out there for an hour and talk cats and I doubt there’s anywhere else where we could do that,” said Basile.

And maybe even leave with a cat. The cat cafe is the first satellite location for Collier County Domestic Animal Services. It’s where you can enjoy a cup of coffee and maybe adopt an animal. How purrfect is that?

“It’s more to benefit the cats because they’re seen in a social environment but the people inside are just enjoying other animal lovers.”
