TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) – Memorial services for a slain Florida police officer have been announced.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office says the service for Officer Charles Kondek will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at Idlewild Baptist Church in Lutz, near Tampa.

Officials say Kondek was shot early Sunday as he responded to a noise complaint at an apartment complex in Tarpon Springs.

Police say 23-year-old Marco Antonio Parilla Jr. was pounding on doors, looking for a neighbor who “dimed him out” to police.

According to authorities, when Parilla saw the officer he fired multiple rounds, striking him once above his bullet-proof vest. He then ran over him with his vehicle and tried to flee. He crashed into a pole and was arrested.

Parilla is charged with first-degree murder.

Kondek had six children.
