JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) – A 12-year-old girl is dead and six others are recovering from injuries after the driver of a vehicle she was riding in struck two cars and lost control and overturned in Jacksonville.

The crash happened at 11:52 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Natalie New wasn’t wearing a seat belt. They say 48-year-old driver Kent New is in serious condition and other passengers in the GMC Yukon received minor injuries.

Troopers say New was traveling north when he struck a Honda Civic while changing lanes.

The Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/1zXLjPq ) reports Kent New then over-corrected and lost control the Yukon, crossing the median and hitting another car before overturning.

The drivers of the other two vehicles were not injured.

An investigation continues.
