PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Philadelphia’s mayor says the death of a college student whose body was found in a river a month after he vanished has been ruled an accident.

Mayor Michael Nutter said Monday that the results of other testing on 21-year-old Shane Montgomery’s body haven’t come back yet.

The West Chester University senior’s family watched Saturday as searchers pulled his body from the Schuylkill (SKOO’-kul) River in the city’s Manayunk section. He disappeared on Thanksgiving after a night out with friends at an Irish pub.

His mother, Karen Montgomery, says the family did what it had promised: Found Shane and brought him home.

Nutter says the city will look into improving safety along the waterfront near where Montgomery’s body was found.
