CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla.- WINK News spoke to a young couple who lost almost everything in a mobile home fire.

Crews were called to Turbak Drive and US 17 around 3:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Tommy Keener, his wife Elizabeth, and their two small children were lucky to get out.

Their mobile home was gutted by flames.

The family says they were able to escape with just the clothes on their backs.

“I was on my way home from work when I found out about it, so all I thought was I hope my baby girls and my wife are okay,” said Keener.

The family says the fire started in the kitchen.

“Everything that we owned was in the house and it was gone,” said Keener.

The couple tells WINK News their insurance company said their trailer was too old to insure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The family is staying with a relative Friday night.
