Firefighters control Golden Gate Estates brush fire

Published: Updated:

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- A brush fire is now under control in Golden Gate Estates.

The fire broke out just after noon near at 48th Avenue and Everglades Boulevard.

Fire officials tell WINK News they believe a camp fire sparked it.

Flames charred five acres of land. fire crews were moping up the lines and are now continuing to monitor for any hot spots.

Deputy Fire Chief Eric Watson says it could continue to smolder for the next week or two.

“When you’re dealing with brush fires this time of year, it’s the middle of dry season, it’s low humidity, it’s moderate winds pushing out to the east. You put a fire like that with the right conditions, with the right amount of fuel in front of it, and it will grow in a hurry,” said Watson.

Fire investigators say if you’re going to light a camp fire, make sure you put it out to prevent brush fires like this from happening.
