New video shows Fort Myers plane crash

FORT MYERS, Fla. – WINK News has obtained new video showing the moment a small plane crash landed near Page Field Monday afternoon.

The video was captured by a security camera at the White Sands Treatment Center on Colonial Blvd. It shows the small plane crash in the White Sands parking lot, landing on top of a storage pod and an employee’s truck.

Almost immediately, you see several White Sands employees rush to help.

For the first time, WINK News is also hearing the 911 calls made by employees moments after the crash.

“There is a very small 2 seater plane that crashed in the back parking lot. They have the door open but I can’t see the pilot,” one employee tells the 911 operator.

The storage pod and truck still sit in the parking lot. A White Sands employee tells WINK News they have to remain there until the NTSB investigation of the crash is completed, which could take months.

The plane’s pilot, Greg Piehl, remains in the hospital in good condition. THe passenger, Piehl’s 85-year-old mother Donna Piehl, is in critical condition.

The cause of the crash remains unclear.
