Cape Coral City Council delays vote on extended bar hours

Published: Updated:

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- The Cape Coral City Council delayed a vote on extending bar hours at select locations because the mayor is currently out of town.

The new ordinance would allow bars and restaurants to stay open and serve alcohol until 4 a.m. instead of 2 a.m. Friday night into Saturday and Saturday night into Sunday. This focuses on eight bars in the South Cape Entertainment district.

The ordinance requires those businesses to hire an off duty police officer to work the extended hours, and have security cameras.

The bar owners say this would bring in more business and visitors to the area, but some are worried about the public safety aspects.

If approved, the bars would have to apply for and receive a permit before staying open late. The first night of extended hours could be Friday, April 3, if approved.
