TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Taxes on cellphones, cable television and college textbooks would get cut if the Florida House gets its way.

The Florida House on Tuesday rolled out a nearly $700 million tax cut package. The package includes more than a dozen tax breaks that House members want to pass during this year’s session.

The tax cut package includes a cut in a tax charged on cellphones and cable television. The cut would save the average Floridian about $40 a year.

House leaders are also backing Gov. Rick Scott’s proposal to exempt college textbooks from sales taxes. The House package also calls for a three-day back to school sales tax holiday in late July and early August.

Senate leaders, however, have not yet said what type of tax cut package they will support.
