FORT MYERS, Fla.- Girl Scouts are known for their cookie sales but one local troop is using their profits to help those in need.

Girl Scout Troop 292 joined forces with the local nonprofit Voices for Kids of Southwest Florida and their “Bedz for Kidz” program.

The troop used a portion of their cookie proceeds to purchase beds and bedding to give to foster kids to use in their foster homes.

WINK News was there Monday as the girls decorated their pillow cases with messages of support for the children.

“It’s good to share what you have, to use your abilities wisely,” said Elinor Rienzo.

“They love giving back and it really makes them feel proud of themselves, and like they’re actually making a difference,” said troop leader Jodi Rienzo.

The girls decorated the pillow cases with a quote from Winnie the Pooh, “you’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”
