BRANDON, Fla. (WTSP)- A 9-year-old girl is traveling to compete in the national free throw contest.

Nini Davenport won five preliminary free throw contests to qualify for the national competition.

She is now making the trip to Springfield, Massachusetts to take on the best free throw shooters in the country.

“She’s homeschooled, so she’s always in here practicing with her dad,” said YMCA Program Director Ryan Gelhaus.

“If I miss one shot, it’s all over but the crying,” said Nini’s dad Larry.

Davenport took up the game about a year ago. She practices several hours each week and plays with older boys for more competition.

She even hit a game-winning shot in her first YMCA game.
