NORTH PORT, Fla.- Nearly $5,000 has been donated to a family whose puppy was shot and left for dead in a local neighborhood.

The Jack Russell mix named Sami got loose from her fenced backyard at a home on Parkins Terrace.

Her owners found her after she was shot with a BB gun.

The dog was transferred to a specialty care center in Sarasota and has now endured three hours of surgery.
