NAPLES, Fla.- Gulf Coast High School senior pitcher Michael Zimmerman is committed to the University of Florida, he’s got a blistering 1.77 ERA, and has the composure to keep it all in perspective.

“He’s the leader… and class clown,” said Gulf Coast Head Baseball Coach Pete Garcia.

Zimmerman likes keeping it loose, even when the pressure is on.

“The Mariner game where I threw a perfect game, after the first inning, I looked at my catcher and I was like.. I feel good today, I might throw a perfect game,” said Zimmerman.

This season, Zimmerman has thrown a perfect game and a no-hitter back-to-back. He credits both to good control and a no-stress mindset.

“Have fun.. act like a kid, play like a kid, and you don’t worry about things,” said Zimmerman.

“The fact that he gets on the mound and shows his composure and poise — that’s probably the biggest thing. He doesn’t rattle,” said Garcia.

His composure, plus a 6 feet 3 inches frame, and a 90-plus mph fastball from the left side has earned Zimmerman a scholarship to play at one of the nation’s premiere baseball programs: Florida.

He hopes to settle in and make an impact as a starter as early as his freshman year.
