NAPLES, Fla.- Fifth Avenue in downtown Naples is back open after being shut down by officials for several hours Monday morning.

A Naples Police Department spokesman tells WINK News a man called 911 around 10 a.m., threatening to hurt himself and another person inside the Inn on Fifth.

Police say the caller didn’t give them an exact hotel room, which warranted an entire search of the hotel.

“We didn’t have any contact with this person after about an hour and half after we were here. We talked to him, I believe two times, then we lost contact and didn’t call back as he said he was going to call back,” said Barkley.

Now authorities are looking into whether or not this was a hoax.

“At one point, he said he was going to come to the lobby and he never did that,” said Barkley.

SWAT crews arrived on scene and managed to clear the hotel. Authorities say they did not find anyone inside the hotel, and there were no injuries reported.

Police are continuing to investigate. Trust WINK News for the latest updates.
