Police: Man douses wife with gasoline, tries to drown her

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – A central Florida man is accused of dousing his wife with gasoline and throwing her in a backyard swimming pool before police arrived.

The incident unfolded Tuesday afternoon in Kissimmee.

Police say the woman called 911 and frantically told the dispatcher that her husband was trying to kill her. She said she was hiding in the bathroom with her 24-year-old daughter. She then said he was trying to get inside the bathroom.

The Orlando Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1Jayl7y ) reports dispatchers heard the woman screaming. As police arrived the man took the woman to the backyard and threw her in the pool. An officer jumped in to save her while other officers subdued the man.

He was taken to jail and faces multiple charges.

The names of the man and woman were not released.
