Police release 911 call from Cape Coral explosion

Published: Updated:

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- For the first time, WINK News is hearing the 911 call that came in after an explosion rocked a local neighborhood last week.

It happened at the Isles of Porto Vista community on Del Prado Boulevard near US 41.

The explosion injured Justin McHenry, blasting off his arms. He remains at Lee Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

The explosion forced dozens of people to evacuate their homes Friday.

“We just heard a thump cooking, and felt like a thud on my floor. I don’t know if it came from above or below,” said a neighbor who called 911 from the same building where the blast happened.

WINK News has been pressing for answers since Friday. Four days later, police have still not said what caused the blast that forced so many people out of their homes.

McHenry’s family is with him at the hospital

Trust WINK News to continue to push Cape Coral police for more information on what caused the explosion.
