USCG prepares for National Boater Safety Week

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. – In conjunction with National Boater Safety Week the United States Coast Guard is hosting an open house of their own to help educate boaters and keep them safe on the water.

Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach, will host the event on both Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17 from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. giving tours of the station and their search and response boats. Including both of their 45′ and 29′ rapid response boats.

Coast Guard officers will also demonstrate various life saving and safe mariner practices.

“We’ve got all kinds of stuff going on, everything from demonstrations for kayak and paddle boards, as well as general lessons on how to use the equipment,” said Grant Lacy, Second Class Petty Officer with the United States Coast Guard.

The event is free and open to the public. National Safe Boating week runs May 16- May 22. Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach is located at 719 San Carlos Drive, Fort Myers Beach.
