CAPE CORAL, Fla. – The State Fire Marshal is investigating two early Wednesday morning car fires as arson.

Police tell WINK News the fire department was called to a home on the 600 block of Tropicana Parkway around 1:30 a.m. They say the fire did not spread to any homes.

The fire marshal’s office tells WINK News detectives are following up on leads and sent samples to the lab for analysis.

The homeowner Marcos Canino says, “we were here, we were sleeping. Our kids woke us up ‘there’s fire, there’s fire.’ We went outside, saw the two cars on fire. My car was not on fire, I moved it out. Went to get the hose and it was too late. Whoever did this, God is watching.”

He says he doesn’t know who would do this to his family and doesn’t know if they were targeted specifically.

“No idea, we’re working people, we go to work every day, we pay taxes, we don’t do anything bad.”

He says both cars are totaled.
