JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) – An estimated 40 professional and amateur athletes will gather in Jacksonville this weekend to compete in Pogopalooza, the U.S. Open of Xpogo, the sport of extreme pogo stick jumping.

The Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/1Goh8HN ) reports the event, which draws competitors from all over the world, will take place Friday and Saturday in Hemming Park. Participants will compete to set the world record high jump and make the most consecutive jumps among other events.

Competitors will use modern-day pogo sticks, which have evolved from the popular kids toy invented in 1957 into high-tech, air-powered sticks that can launch jumpers almost 10 feet off the ground.

Pogopalooza will also feature a pogo stick expo, food and music. Admission is free.
