NORTH PORT, Fla.- The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the drowning of a 2-year-old boy in the Warm Mineral Springs area.

Around 10 a.m., a resident of Orduna Drive went outside and found the child in the swimming pool.

The resident called 911 and began CPR with their instruction. Deputies and paramedics arrived and the child was pronounced deceased.

Police say the child was not related to the person who found him.

Deputies went door to door and located the child’s mother across the street several homes away from where the child was found. The father of the 2-year-old was notified at work.

Authorities say neither parent had seen the child since late Monday night.

The Department of Children and Families will be investigating.
