MGN CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Police are investigating a Fourth of July crash that left two dead and injured three others. It happened around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection Veterans Memorial Parkway and Skyline Boulevard. Witnesses told police a Kia Forte made a left turn into the intersection and drove right into a Chevrolet Impala, that was going about 50 miles per hour. Montaigu Moselle, 36, from Rhode Island was in the Kia. He was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. There were four people in the Impala. The driver, 55-year-old Paul Ortiz Jr., and one passenger suffered serious injuries. Another passenger, 84-year-old Paul Ortiz, from South Carolina was taken to a hospital but later died. The fourth passenger was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Police said alcohol did play a factor in the crash. UPDATE: 78-year-old Joan Ortiz died nearly two weeks later from injuries suffered in the crash.
