PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Authorities are investigating a burglary at a Regions Bank.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an alarm going off at the bank located at on Peachland Boulevard just before 5:30 a.m.

When they arrived minutes later, they found a broken window going into the business. Several nearby items outside the bank appeared to have been moved to try to conceal the broken window.

Deputies checked the building, but found nobody inside. They did find that several security boxes behind the tellers’ counter had been pried open, allowing the suspect to take coins.

A check of the security video showed a single suspect dressed in dark clothing carrying a backpack inside the bank. The clothing covered the person’s entire body, including the face and head. Detectives also received information concerning a “white sports car” that was seen in the area of the bank at the time. The vehicle may or may not have been involved in the burglary. The investigation is ongoing.

If you have any information, contact the sheriff’s office at 941-639-2101 (ask for District Detectives), or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
