ARCADIA, Fla. (AP) – The Florida Highway Patrol says a 6-year-old boy is the sole survivor of a crash that killed five people in southwest Florida. The crash happened Sunday night on a wet road between Arcadia and Lake Placid in Desoto County. A crash report states that 30-year-old Jennifer Zuniga’s pickup truck hydroplaned and crossed the center line of State Road 70. Zuniga tried to steer into the shoulder, but hit a Volkswagen Passat driven by 29-year-old Lamour Welch. The crash killed Welch and three others in the car – 18-year-old Tehira Welch, 24-year-old India Welch, both of St. Petersburg, and 24-year-old Antwayne Robinson of North Carolina. Zuniga, of Venus, also died. Zuniga’s 6-year-old passenger Cort Thivierge was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition. Troopers say alcohol didn’t play a factor.
