Collier Republicans talk about abandoning one of their own

EAST NAPLES, Fla.- The Collier County Republican Executive Committee is looking to abandon one of their own.

The big controversy is surrounding Collier County School Board member Kathleen Curatolo. Over the past year, she has been accused of striping members of their 1st Amendment rights at public board meetings. Republicans also printed up a 2-page document that shows her voting record is out of line with party values.

According to documents, the Republican party was expected to vote on a resolution to “censure” Curatolo. The censure would hurt her in the 2016 election; it means Curatolo would receive no money, no endorsements and no help from her party. Curatolo is a Republican. Her party saying in Tuesday’s meeting the censure is reserved for extreme party disloyalty.

In the meeting one member said “she has impersonated a Republican, when is it time we lift the veil from her?”

The censure is such a severe measure this would be the first time the Collier County Republican Committee has taken action like this against one of their own.

One member on the Executive Board did not want the media there for the discussion and went as far as to say the committee will hold the next meeting in a private venue. The party is expected to vote on the censure at their next meeting in October.
