ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (AP) – America’s oldest city marked its 450th anniversary with a long weekend of free concerts and events.

St. Augustine was founded by the Spanish in 1565. The city kicked off its weekend of festivities with Spanish music in its historic downtown.

A Spanish galleon is on display in the city’s harbor area near the Castillo de San Marcos, a fortress built in the 17th Century.

Authorities estimated that nearly 65,000 people came to downtown St. Augustine on Saturday for concerts and other events. Large crowds also filled the city on Sunday.

The St. Augustine Record reports (http://bit.ly/1LfOTYc ) that T-shirts bearing the slogan “Party Like It Is 1565” were popular over the weekend.

Later this month, King Felipe VI of Spain will visit Florida for the U.S.-Spain Council International Summit.
