TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – Officials say a school bus driver has been cited for careless driving after the vehicle crashed into a pond while carrying 27 elementary students.

The Hillsborough County school district announced Tuesday that 54-year-old driver Lenoir Sainfimin has been fired.

The crash happened Sept. 17 as the bus carried students home from school.

The Tampa Tribune (http://bit.ly/1V9aUT8 ) reports the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office used an independent mechanic, who found that mechanical failure wasn’t a factor in the crash. Officials also downloaded GPS data from the bus and watched video from a nearby security shack and from the bus.

Officials say the bus was traveling 48 mph in a 35 mph zone.

No one was seriously injured in the crash
