LARGO, Fla. (AP) – A Clearwater man is being charged with attempting to escape from the Pinellas County Jail by digging through walls.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office tells local media they received a tip last week that 26-year-old inmate Scott A. Lambert had been digging a hole in his current jail cell and in one he previously occupied.

Detectives say they found a hole about 6 inches wide and 1.5 inches deep on the wall underneath his bunk. The hole had been concealed with a piece of notebook paper. In the second cell, detectives found another hole, also in the wall under his bunk.

Authorities say Lambert used a piece of metal from a broken light fixture to dig the holes.

Lambert was arrested in November on multiple charges, including robbery and cocaine possession.
