FMPD searching for suspects in shot fired outside Cigar Bar

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Fort Myers police are searching for a man who fired a gun near a popular downtown bar.

Just before 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, authorities responded to the Cigar Bar on Hendry Street to investigate an aggravated assault with a firearm investigation.

The victim, who was working at the time, said he saw two men climbing on his Dodge truck outside. When he approached the men to ask why they were on his truck, the suspects ignored him and walked away.

The victim continue to question and follow the suspects when one of them tired a shot in the victim’s direction. The victim ran back into the bar uninjured.

Some who live in the area think the suspects were trying to climb onto the awning to access the condo above the Cigar Bar. One man says it’s not the first time people have tried to sneak into the building.

“All they really have to do, is stand here and wait for somebody to come out. The door opens, they just walk in; that’s happened to me a couple of times. I don’t let them in,” said Jack Luft.

Detectives describe the suspect who shot at the victim as being in his early 20s, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing approximately 150 pounds. He was wearing a red shirt and long khaki shorts.
