FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) – An employer says the pilot of a small plane that crashed in the Florida Everglades last month has died from his injuries.

The Spohrer & Dodd law firm in Jacksonville told the South Florida Sun Sentinel (http://goo.gl/i6qxC2 ) that 63-year-old James Alexander Townsend died at Broward Health Medical Center Tuesday evening. Townsend and two colleagues from the firm were heading to Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport on Oct. 26 when the plane went down shortly after noon in southwest Broward County.

The passengers in the plane were both hospitalized, but their injuries were less severe that Townsend’s.

Officials say the Piper Chieftain plane was not yet in communication with the airport tower when it crashed 16 miles from its destination.

The National Transportation Safety Board has not yet released a preliminary report.
